SANDRA: "I think there is experience, not failure."
Do you remember songs as "Maria Magdalena", "In the Heat of the Night", "Little Girl", "Hiroshima", "Everlasting Love" or "Hi! Hi! Hi!"? All those were the ‘80es hits and have a single signature, Sandra. The Pop Music Diva of the '80es returns to Romania and, before that, she chose to talk about the plans of future, family and the concert in Romania. An exclusive interview for Eva.ro before the 6th November show from Palace Hall.
Sandra: "You shall have some surprises"
With what thoughts you come to Romania, I know that you are not here for the first time ?
SANDRA: I'm excited every time I get back to Romania, I can hardly wait to meet my fans from here. Thanks to my ex-husband I learned a lot of things about this country, I like to keep in touch with the people from here.
What can you tell us about the concert which you will have here?
SANDRA: In the planned playlist for this concert there will be older songs, greatest hits, but also new songs, from the latest released album: "Back to Life". I cannot tell you too many things, all I can do is to invite you to see with your own eyes what I have prepared. I must confess that in the playlist are also a few surprises.
Do you have any ritual before a concert ?
SANDRA: Yes, but if I told you what it is about, there would not be a ritual anymore...
Special guest on stage will be Francesco Napoli. What can you tell us about him?
SANDRA: I like his music very much and, more than that, we belong to the same generation. I thought that we fit very well in this show.
You are a successful woman, and this thing is recognized. What does success means for Sandra?
SANDRA: To be respected and listened. It's a great feeling to see that after you spend some months in the recording studio, thousands of people buys your album or comes to the concerts. These things makes me very happy.
What are the differences between the ‘80es music and the music from now?
SANDRA: Then we had much more courage to invent things. Everything was less based on technology and you could feel the enthusiasm in the air. These things can be seen very clearly in the ‘80es music. People still had a reason to listen to music, it touched them. It was something else.
Tell us more about the recent projects, the ones you are running now. I know that in March you have released the album "Back to Life".
SANDRA: Yes, working on this album kept me busy for many months. I can say that this project was international , because I recorded both in New York and Ibiza. At the moment I’m focusing all my attention on the live show, which I will promote on the tour, but I have also several other projects, of which I cannot talk about right now, but I shall come back with informations at the right time.
Sandra: "Music is my life"
What does music mean to you?
SANDRA: It is the only way I can express myself and all that I do since I was 16.
Without music I couldn’t be happy and I feel lucky to be still received as an artist and to have fans.
Tell us something about your family?
SANDRA: I love my parents very much, they offer me an extraordinary moral support, without them I could not get over certain periods of my career. Family always keeps you with your feet on the ground when your life takes a "crazy" turn, they remind you that you are a normal person who must eat and sleep.
Can a woman combine both career and family? There is enough time for both things?
SANDRA: It is very hard, and you as a person if you want to succeed this way you have to be logical. You have to plan everything very well. But I think it can be done because I have many examples among my friends who managed to do both. However, is not easy at all, though.
Tell us more about yourself, about childhood.
SANDRA: My life has always meant music. I started singing when I was very young and my childhood was overlaid by the professional activity. It is a double-edged knife, but if I look back, I am happy.
You are a very busy person. Do you have time for your family?
SANDRA: I have to make time, no matter what happens. The children and my husband are the basis of my life, so there will always be time for them. They complete me, one could not go without the other.
What do you do in your spare time?
SANDRA: Swimming, travelling, decorating my house, having fun with the little ones .
What kind of relationship do you have with your ex-husband, the romanian composer, Michael Cretu?
SANDRA: At first it was difficult, there were many talks and tears, but we both accepted the situations and we treated them with maturity, which led me to this moment, to be very happy.
You were married to a Romanian. Do you feel Romania as your second country?
SANDRA: I know a lot of things about this country, I traveled a lot in Romania. There is a very strong connection between me and Romania. I love the passion of the people from here.
What was the greatest failure in your life?
SANDRA: I cannot name failures, because in life we do things from which we learn and therefore they cannot be called failures. I think there is experience, not failure.
Are you feeling fulfilled?
SANDRA: Yes. My life began again with my new husband and my new musical projects. I am very happy and at peace with everything I have.
Can you give an advice to Eves?
SANDRA: I advice them to be themselves and to dare to be different, regardless of what people say.
